personality;harley is very different ever since she went to high school. people used to see harley and smile and grin while she bounced down the corridor and gave everyone a hug and was merry. she was always a happy child and never let anything rain on her parade and if it did, she would just dance in the rain. she's still that person, it's just hidden away and no one will ever see it. she's changed a lot from her old personality and not in a good way either, she changed from her usual happy go lucky crazy child, to quiet, withdrawn and nervous around anyone who wasn't herself. it's hard for harley, but she's hoping a change in school will help her out a lot.
harley has become very very quiet. she used to be the first one to shout out "hi!" or just randomly tell someone a joke. now, she is just constantly in her little corner, trying so hard not to speak because every time she spoke back at home, she was insulted and made fun of because she wasn't as well spoken as most people, considering she would sometimes accidently speak in carny and people would just laugh at her. to stop people from laughing at her, she decided that being silence was an esier way to get through life.
harley has a problem with being around people in general lately. she seemed like a bit of a nervous wreck when she starts talking to people because she is constantly stumbling, playing with her hands and looking away from you. she had a very nervous behaviour and can't look anyone in the eye, if she does, she'll just giggle nervously and look away at the floor and wondering what she is even doing here. she can't seem to keep a conversation going with someone without giggling nervously or having to find a distraction for at least five minutes.
if that wasn't bad enough, she seems to be scared of most things. she is very jumpy at most things that are around her, she even jumps when people knock on her dorm room door. everything seems to make her jump, but she has a good reason for it, after all, wouldn't you be jumpy if you were bullied for a full year of your life where you were stuffed in lockers and dumped in dustbins then on top of that, after her father was killed, she's scared that it will happen to her as well because according to the bullies "that's what carnies get!"
lay down a mathematical problem in front of harley and she'll solve it in no time flat. ask her what a certain scietific equation is and she'll give you the right answer. she could probably even fix your car once she had figured out what was wrong with it. she's extremely intelligent, so don't think that she's just another pretty face, in fact, she's anything but, this girl is a little cocoon of smarts. she has a very high iq, very intelligent when it comes to using her brain and observing things around her. but when it comes down to relationships, she can be a little blinded.
"what is she blinded by?" i hear you saying. well, she's blinded by the fact she just wants to be accepted by people. she is constantly searching for people who will actually look after her and will probably do anything to find a friend. it's unclear if she knows when she's doing something wrong, but she will ocassionally allow people to walk all over her just so she can feel wanted for the millisecond of life. she never used to be like this, she used to tell people who were mean to her to stick their friendship in a very uncomfortable place, but now, she just can't bring herself to do it because she doesn't want to be alone.
the other reason she can befriend people easy when she's not being nervous or jumpy is because she is just gererally friendly and sweet. she is very kind to people she eventually befriends although she befriends people very quickly, mainly because she wants that acceptance again. but also because she is just a really friendly girl, she has been raised to be polite and kind to those who she meets. she is always sweet and is never rude to people, even people who use her or people who bully her because that's just who she is.
emotions are something that this girl has buckets of. if something is bothering her, she will just cry in front of everyone, she's not scared to show her emotions. if she is truly happy with someone, she will tell them how glad she is to be with them, but the problem with that is she tends to tell people everything she is feeling, so if she fancied you, she won't hold it back, she will tell you straight away. and then comes the rejection that she forgot about and she'll spend around a week crying, but that's just who she is. of course, she expresses most of her emotions through her musical work.

history;harley's story starts way before her birth. i guess you could say her history started the day her great great great great granfather joined the carnival that opened, new and fresh in leonardo, new jersey on the boardwalk. the carnival was some where people could go to ave fun and be entertained by the likes of fire breathers, real life mermaids and emurse themselves in little games that were fun to play and could even win them a little prize. every generation of the walker's there after was a boy and each one of them worked in the carnival.
enter thomas, harley's father. he was working at the carnival like his fathers before him and enjoyed every moment of it. he was just eighteen but had already lost his father to cancer. he was in no way alone because he had his fellow carnies who were there to look after him and make sure he didn't give up on life. it was around a month later, he was feeling down in the dump and didn't really want to be around people any more, but that's when he spotted her, carol matthews. he let her win the game she played and flirted a little with her. he was smitten and she couldn't say 'no' either. after the carnival closed down for the night, the two of them spent their evening on the carousel, riding more than the horses.
the morning arrived and the girl was gone but he didn't care, he was in love and felt a whole load better. he went to look for her that day, but there was no trace of her, she had left leonardo and there was no sign of her ever coming back. he felt like he should curl up into a protective ball but he deserved more than that and he knew it. so, he picked himself up and went about his usual business of being a cheery carny. he was one of the people that all the kids loved to mess with and the elder people trusted his face for some reason, which made scamming them a little easier really.
it was around four months after his little meeting with carol matthews that she came back. this time, she was extremely distressed and crying. he had no idea what to do with her so he just sat her down in the quiet little diner just up the boardwalk. he bought her a coffee and told her to explain what was going on. she revealed to him that she was pregnant, finding out only a few days ago. the reason for this being that she gets extremely stressed and it's normal for her to miss periods, but when she missed four in a row, she thought something was wrong, and something was. but she couldn't figure it out as quick as most people would because she had no baby bump. she didn't know what to do with the baby because she didn't want it and it was too old to have an abortion. she talked herself into putting it up for adoption but thomas stopped her and said he would take the baby.
at this particular moment in time, she was on maternity leave from her law firm and told her husband that she was going on a really long holiday to have some alone time. her husband thought nothing of it because she was a strange character and would do things like that. she spent the next five months in leonardo, sleeping in thomas' house and just waiting for the damn baby to be born. of course, that damn baby had to come in the most unconvinient place; the carousel and on the most patriotic day the forth of july. thomas and carol were sat on the carousel, remember the day they met and how stupid they were, then her waters broke and almost instantly she was in labour and the baby was out within twenty minutes. just as she arrived, so did the ambulance. they wrapped mother and daughter up and left for the hospital.
while at the hospital, the mother was given a little morphine and looked after well. the baby daughter was put under observation as she was tiny, a little american miricle really. thomas went to the baby straight away and couldn't help but smile, he had helped to create that beautiful little baby. he wanted to pick her up, but the doctors had advised against it. he decided to see how carol was feeling now the baby was born but when he got to her room, she wasn't there. the doctor said that once she was cleared, she left, leaving the baby without naming it. without thought he named her harley (after his favourite motorcycles) sky (the prettiest thing in the world) walker (his last name, not carol's). that's how harley sky walker came into the world.
the first few years with harley were a bit rocky because he had no idea what he was doing with the baby, he was hopeless but didn't give up. the other carnies, some of them with children, helped out a lot because that's what happens when you work at a carnival, you all band together to pull them through it all. without their help, thomas would have probably lost his mind and failed poor little harley, but with the support, which he always needs, harley was safe, secure and able to live the perfect life her father wanted for her.
harley didn't attend elementry school. instead, she spent her days working at the carnival. well, not really working, she would just sit around, swing her legs and watch her father work. it was this that made her want to always be at the carnival, she never wanted to leave. of course, while her father worked some days, a few of the carnies would teach her mathematics, science and english. to cover all the other subject, they would get her to help them paint up the carnival to keep it presentable, they would teach her little piano pieces so she would keep the customers in a cheery mood. they did loads of things like this to make sure that harley grew up as a well rounded child and it pretty much worked. one of these things were one of her natural talents and that was her gymnastics, they could see she was good at getting into tight corners and that she could keep her balance while holding so many things.
one of those day at the carnival would be the one day that would scar her for life. the carnies had never been too keen on clowns because they weren't really the right scene for this carnival. but, they reluctantly agreed to having the clown wonder around and sell balloons and cheer up the little kids. the problem was, this clown was a bit of a strange person. without the clown make up, he was a pretty normal human being but once he had the make up on, he turned in to a totally weirdo. he caught sight of harley one day and would follow her around, whether he was making sure she was okay or if he was a paedophile is not known. what is known is that he scared the life out of her and made her recoil with fear everytime she sees a clown.
another day would see the birth of nerdy little harley. it was after closing hours and she was just strolling around the park, helping tidy up slightly. her eyes caught sight of something extremely intresting looking; a batman. this was, of course, the front cover to a batman comic book. she picked up and sat herself down on the carousel and read it, finding herself so in love with this comic book. as her life would go on, her comic book collection would become extremely varried and huge. she loved to read the comic books and soon enough was addicted to watching sci-fi movies.
sadly, for harley at the moment, the authorities found out that she wasn't in school. she just eight years old and she was thrusted into the school system. of course, she was bullied for not being at school and being the daughter of a carny. because she was quiet and made no effort to shout back at them, they would carry on the abuse. that was until they were finally in a lesson with her. never did they think they would be out smarted by the daughter of a carny. she was a lot smarter than a lot of the people there, she was just a little withdrawn because she was out of her comfort zone. she wanted to go back to the carnival but couldn't. she was stuck in school now.
it wasn't a long time until she finally found herself and felt a little more relaxed in school. she went back to the more confident and loud harley that the carnies knew and loved. she was soon enough one of the most popular girls in school because she was herself and didn't pretend to be someone she wasn't. that and she was an amazing friend, someone you could talk to about anything and just get a long with even if you had nothing in common. she cared a lot about her friends and was one of the best people to befriend in school.
the thing was, when she left school, she left her friends behind. she couldn't exactly ask her friend to come over to the carnival and hang out with them because she needed to help her father out with the work and she prefered to spend time with her father. she was a bit of a social hermit when she wasn't at school because she didn't want to hang out with school friends, she wanted to hang out with the coolest people she knew, the ones who had raised her and looked after her. she felt more at home with the carnies, after all, they had been the ones to teach her the basics of education and the basics of life, and on top of that, they taught her to speak fluent carny, the ever changing language.
it was when she went to high school that it changed slightly. she became quiet and shy again, she didn't know these people and they took one look at the tattoo on her arm of the carny logo and began to bully her. they were of course a lot more judgemental than elementry school students and they were a lot more evil than them. they would bully her, put her in dustbins and hang her up on hooks that she couldn't get down from. her self-confidence went down so much and everything was a lot harder for her, the only time she was even happy was when she was singing or playing guitar and piano in the tiny little music room. it was her one release while she was at school and it was the only time she actually felt happy away from the carnival.
soon enough, it was harley's fifteenth birthday, which was also independance day, and she was having a celebration, just her and and her family. she sat with some of the carnies watch the forth of july fireworks and ride on the carousel, she never knew that this night would go horribly wrong. as it was a huge event, the carnival was staying open as late as possible. harley has been speaking with one of the carnies when she heard the large roit going on behind her. a few of the "popular" kids from school were getting in the way of the carnies, trying to make life as hard as possible for them. harley stepped in, telling them to back off and they insulted her. she wouldn't break down and cry, instead she launch her tiny self at the idiots and started to beat one of them down. this was a side no one ever saw and everyone was shocked to see it, but glad that she was beating up these idiots.
of course, they were ejected from the carnival, but they weren't finished. they found out what station thomas was working at and decided to tamper with that mini roller coaster. he went back to the coaster after a small break where he showed the girls a few little magic tricks. when he got back he started the coaster up and did a little test drive to make sure that it was still in working order before he let anyone on. now, we know that it wasn't in working order and we know the reason behind this horrible accident where the cart came off the tracks and crushed the operator's booth that thomas was in. harley was close by and was hit by a few pieces of fly debris, but it didn't bother her because her father was the one that was hurt. she rushed over to him and held his hand so tightly as he said his last words "looking back will make you trip up and miss what's in front of you". the tears were streaming down her face. by the time the ambulance got there, he had died and harley had lost a lot of blood and was feeling quite faint.
she awoke in the hospital a few days later and a few of the carnies were by her side, holding her hand and making sure she was okay. she just didn't know what to say, so instead, she just broke down and cried. she just didn't know if she'd be able to take the pain that she felt in her heart. she was sure that it would just drive her mad and she would lose everything and end up hurting her true family, something she didn't want to do. but then again, if she left or killed herself, that would upset them even more. she decided to stay and go back to high school and push the thoughts out of her mind, she would go back to the carnival and look foward, making sure that she lived her life the way she wanted to.
once she was finally cleared to come out of the hospital, she went back to the carnival, only to watch it being shut down because of how dangerous it was. all of her family were leaving to find another carnival and start up a new one somewhere. harley begged them to take her with them, but they told her that her father would want her to be something more. she wanted to be a carny, that's what she wanted to, she wanted to do what she loved, but they wouldn't let her because they knew that other carnivals weren't as innocent as leonardo's and they didn't want to see the thing they loved and raise end up turning to drugs.
suddenly, out of the blue, she recieved an acceptance letter from perth sporting academy, asking her if she wanted to attend to study gymnastics. she had no idea where this letter had come from, but it had come from her mother. she didn't know how to react, but her carny family told her to take the oppurtunity, they told her she should go for it because she needed something to make her life better. sure, she would be having fun, but she wouldn't be with her family so she didn't know if she wanted to do it. the next day she recieved a suspicious letter telling her that there was a home in australia for her that was set up by her father and she could live happily in perth with a new family. the carnies knew what was going on and on their advice, she was off to perth. of course, her mother had made it so she could attend at her young age.
she has arrived in perth and is staying with her foster family, still attending therapy sessions and waiting for the day she can save up, go back to new jersey and re-open the carnival.

Harley was starting to wonder what was going on in this school really. Loads of people seemed to just walk around aimlessly and never really go to lessons, but that's the way she liked it, free to roam to classes whenever she wanted. Sure, she might end up getting thrown out of the school for being a free spirit, but it wasn't her fault she would prefer to sit in the grass and play with the flowers instead of doing work. She wasn't raised to work, she was raised to work on a carnival which basically consisted of running around with her own father fixing rides, painting pieces of wood, having a giggle with the customers and most of all, she would always be playing the music while the acts were going on, whether that be firebreathers, clowns or animal tamers, although she had a slight distaste for clowns, but that was a different story. Today was another story as well, just one more day closer to finally realising who she truly was in life if she wasn't able to be a carny.
All that could be seen through the light fog was this tiny girl walking out of the school grounds. She really didn't really know where she was going because she had only lived in this area a month, but she was sure she would get used to and she was a pretty fast learner, so she would remember it in no time what so ever. Of course, she only really needed to know her way to some key places and that was the mall and the park. Why? Well, she heard the mall was where teenagers hung out now, and she wanted to make new friends here and try and be a 'normal' teenager (whatever that was) so she could fit in and not be alone all the time. Now the park was a different story, that was just the place that she wanted to be to be alone, to remember her father and most of, to have a little bit of a giggle. She'd never been to a real park, but there was a little area of the carnival that was covered in flowers, trees and grass and there was a little swing set and it was where she would always be with the 'family' she loved and missed so much.
Now, don't think she's a whimp, but being in a park brought a small tear to her eye. She was at the gate of the park without even knowing and boy she was happy to be here, but there was still a certain sadness weighing on her heart. It was the sight of all that green stuff that had brought the tear, not because she had hayfever (that was pretty impossible in Feburary anyways), but because all these trees, all the grass and definitely all the flowers, brought back the happiness she had when she was a kid, and although technically she was still a kid, she hadn't felt that way in a year because of those darn bullies at high school. She shoved her hands deep into the pockets of her jeans, hoping to find the answer she had been looking for, the answer that would solve her problems and bring her father back, but that was never going to happen because this wasn't a Disney movie. If only.
Harley's tiny body moved through the park, trying to find somewhere she could sit, but everywhere, there were other people. That was the whole idea of a park, but she kind of wanted to be alone. Also, at the moment, she was enjoying the sound of the slightly frosted stones under her Converse. That always sounded weird to people who didn't understnad her, but that's who she was, someone who savoured all the little things in life because growing up, that's all she had. She never had the money to buy clothes all the time, in fact, she hardly had any money, but she had a beaten up guitar and the love of her 'family'. Right now, she had the children's playground which certainly brought a smile to her face when she saw it. She almost ran to it, like a child seeing their Christmas presents, and plonked herself down quickly on the swing. She grinned broadly as she began to swing, all the power in her legs and arms.
This took her back to all those days and nights she would spend with the 'family' and her father, swinging on those swings back home in Leonardo, New Jersey. She missed that time and wished she could just go back. Then again, she didn't because of what her father always told her; looking back will back you trip over what's right in front of you. Better words have never been spoken to her, and probably never will but, she still couldn't help looking back on the time at the carnival, after all, wouldn't you find it hard to look back on the best days of your life after you had been bullied for who you are. She didn't know if it was the cold wind or the emotions bubbling to the top again, but her eyes began to water and she stopped swinging, almost instantly. She didn't want people to see her cry, people bullied cry babies and she didn't want to be bullied again. A sigh, that came from her heavy heart, escaped her pale lips as she wiped away the small tears that had found their way down her cheeks.

once upon a time there was a girl named HARLEY. she went along to THE PLAYGROUND and hung out with BLAKE BAILEY. it was a very beautiful day even though it was SLIGHTLY CHILLY AND FOGGY and it was somtime in the AFTERNOON. it took her around NINE HUNDRED AND TWENTY THREE words to actually FINISH what she was saying. she was wearing a beutiful OUTFIT that is probably one of her favourites. of course, she didn't do it all alone, she has to thank LAURAfor inspiring the template, MEfor the banner and HANSONfor the lyrics from blue sky. and that's all she wrote for now, folks.
