* harley sky walker----------------sometimes i can't tell which way's up---------------- Harley furrowed her brow as she once again tried to sit down and do the Spanish homework she had been set. She shook her head lightly and then started to look down at it again. She had no idea what was wrong with her because she knew Spanish, her father had taught it to her and she was pretty good with everything to do with it. She sighed deeply and moved away from the desk for a while, she might get it this time if she cleared her head, laying down on the bed, her hands laying underneath her head as she looked up at the ceiling. An interesting thing was the ceiling, she wondered what was up there, as in out of the roof and in the sky, she was always cloud staring when she was on the carnival, along with watching the stars, the sky was just an interesting thing for her, but she wasn't a science nerd, so it would always remain a mystery for her. But she liked mysteries, so it was all okay, she loved to read things where everything was a surprise, where you didn't know the full story because when you think about it, that's exactly what life was. You never knew what was going to happen next until it finally happened, but then you didn't know what the next thing was going to be, it was just too exciting.
Harley shifted her position slightly and blinked as she looked out the window, a pretty little bird was perched on the branch that hung passed her window. She smiled lightly and finally stood on her feet, getting off of her bed and then towards the window. She grinned as she opened the window and leant just out the window to stroke the bird slightly. The bird twittered at her and she carried on grinning, watching the bird carefully. She wanted this bird to be her pet, but one of those crazy, wild pets that only came back when she was lonely or when it needed feeding. There were loads of those kinda of animals back home and she enjoyed having them around because they always kept her happy, even when she was truly depressed. Nature and animals just cheered her up and she didn't know why, they just did. Which was why she wanted to be outside right now, not because she was depressed but because it would keep her happy for the time being. She quickly scooped up her lovely decorated Converse and pulled them on quickly, lacing them twice as quick. She stood to her feet and grinned and almost ran out of the dorm room and then out of the dorm building into the outside world.
Once she was finally outside, she could help but hop, skip and jump all across the grounds. She loved it here at the current moment, the Australian air was different from that back home, but she loved it, she couldn't help but want to go home. Then again, there wasn't anything at home, the carnival had been shut down, the carnies had left and her father was dead. Sure, if she could get the carnival reopened and she could get all the carnies back together, it would be awesome really. She carried on bouncing around when it hit her, she should do her Spanish homework. She sighed lightly and walked off to the closest building, thinking it was the dorm building, but it was actually the lecture halls. She casually walked up the stairs to go to the freshman dorms when she found herself in the languages classroom. She grinned to herself, well, if she needed help with her Spanish homework, this was probably the best place to come. She slowly walked over to the shelf at the back and picked up one of the books with a little smile. She sat down on one of the tables and began to seek help in the book before her.
"¡Oh, tonto yo!" she said with a little grin to herself.
----------------once upon a time there was a girl named HARLEY. she went along to LANGUAGES CLASSROOM and hung out with SOMEONE, ANYONE. it was a very beautiful day even though it was BRIGHT AND SUNNY and it was somtime in the AFTERNOON. it took her around SIX HUNDRED AND SEVENTY TWO words to actually FINISH what she was saying. she was wearing a beutiful OUTFIT that is probably one of her favourites. of course, she didn't do it all alone, she has to thank MEfor the banner and MILEY CYRUSfor the lyrics from simple song. and that's all she wrote for now, folks.

For his short lunch break, David had left campus to go get a little food. He didn't bother to lock his door, simply because there was nothing to worry about. He usually returned there about 45 minutes before his next class so he could be sure to make sure everything was clean and orderly, just the way he liked it. Then, once that was settled, he would go through his lesson plans, grade any homework and do any last minute things he had forgotten to do the night before. Being a teacher and a coach was exhausting, but David hardly cared. It kept his mind off of things, and the more he could do that, the better.
After running down to the Subway, where he was content getting food because he saw them prepare it, David felt slightly satisfied. Usually, he brought his own food, but he was running a little bit late and his place was far enough for campus that it was impossible to go back. So, he had settled with Subway, which was often what he had to do if practice ran late.
With a fresh cup of strong, black coffee in his hands, David entered the lecture hall, using his foot to push open the door, despite his free hand. God, door handles grossed him out. Letting the door close behind him, David lifted his mug to his lips, taking a sip of the coffee. He was practically addicted to the drink. It was rare not to see him with out a thermos or mug. If it was cold enough, he would sometimes drink it during soccer practice, followed by a lot of water. He would never allow any of the players to do it though. There were a lot of things David did that he never wanted to see any of the students doing. But, he couldn't control their lives, so he avoided situations that could involve it as much as possible.
Reaching the end of the hall, he pulled out his trusty handkerchief, shaking it out a bit before wrapping it around the door knob, twisting, and opening it. He took a few steps in, looked to the left, glancing at Harley, but not really noticing her. After taking a few more steps, he glanced over to the left, suddenly realizing that there was someone in the room and jumping slightly, grasping his chest slightly for dramatic flare. Sometimes he liked to do that, be dramatic and all.
"Aye, Hija, what are you doing in here?" he asked, placing his coffee mug on his desk and sitting next to it. He was surprised to see anyone spending any time in the class room when it wasn't required. More than half of the kids in his class never did any homework. After a year he got used to it, though. It was rare to find a kid that really cared about learning a language for anything more than grades and even rarer in a school that focused on sports. The kids weren't student athletes, they were athlete students.

* harley sky walker----------------sometimes i can't tell which way's up---------------- Harley couldn't believe that it was this simple, she really thought that it was a lot more complicated than this. She grinned to herself slightly as she began to scribble down the answers from the book. She knew all of this stuff, she remembered being perch up on one of the prize winning booths and being taught this simple basics, she couldn't believe she had forgotten all of this stuff, then it was a lifetime ago, well, it felt like it any way. She missed home so much and doing all of this Spanish work meant that she was going to have a lot of memories coming to the top of her mind, things like when the samll Spanish boy was lost in the carnival and she had to help him find his parents, but first of all, she tried to speak Navajo to him and when that didn't work she finally realised that she was actually speaking Spanish, she was a little slow, but she had a heart of gold which was why people loved her and why her father worried about her so much when she went into the world. Now she was worried she would disappoint her father while her looked down at her from the heavens, hence her tattoo, so she wouldn't look back on the past like it was baggage. She wondered sometimes whether or not she would do proud for her father, that's the main things she was scared at, alway worried she would disappoint him, even though he was dead. Then again, she was still scared of disappointing people, sure, she didn't have any family, but she had teachers now, friends she could disappoint, even though she had craved their acceptance by doing anything they wanted, she was scared she would disappoint them.
A noise came from behind her and this jumpy little thing jumped right out of her skin and then turned sharply to look at a teacher, her pulse returning to normal. She was way too frightened that it was going to be another person to come and dump her in a trash can once again, it had happened too many times in her past that she just found it normal now. A small smile appeared on her lips, she liked this teacher, Mister Castillo, he was very nice to her, maybe it had something to do with the fact she had a passion for his language, in fact, she had a passion for all cultures, history was always an insteresting subject for her. She just enjoyed languages so much, it was a real insight into the culture. "Oh, I was just getting some help from the book for the homework you set us," she spoke a little too quickly, but still with a little sheepish smile. She was always scared of upsetting people by being in their space. She looked down at her feet that were crossed on the table and quickly took them off, letting her feet swing in the air like the true child she was, smiling politely up at him still.

"Not to hard, yeah?" David asked, getting up and going around the back side of the desk. Using his handkerchief, he opened one of the drawers and took out a box of wet wipes. Taking one out, he wiped his hands, then the top of his desk before tossing the towel-let. Most of his students and colleagues knew his OCD tendencies, but just the surface. It seemed like just a quirk, like he was just a germaphobe, which was, unfortunately, not the case. But he was pretty fine with his problem. Really. He had learned to deal with it, mostly. He would get help if it got any worse, but that was what he always said. "I don't want to be a mean teacher or anything, you know?" he shrugged, taking a seat in his chair. Letting out a slight as he leaned back into the rolling office chair.
It felt like he had been running around all day. There had been a morning practice, followed by the typical two showers, causing him to run a little late to his first period classes. And the first period class was pretty tough to deal with anyway. It was basically a bunch of rowdy kids, all hyped up from the morning. But Harley was pretty alright. First, she was doing his homework, which of course made him made him happy. Also, she was pretty fair at Spanish to begin with and was interested in actually learning it.
"If you need help, just ask." David added as he retrieved a folder and started going through it. It had contained the quizzes from the last week that he was going to return tomorrow. He was almost done grading them. He took another sip of his coffee as he looked over the papers, he would have to curve the quizzes at the rate that it was going now. No one had gotten above a 90 yet. Not good. With a bit of a sigh, David scratched the side of his head for a moment before picking up his coffee and taking another sip.

* harley sky walker----------------sometimes i can't tell which way's up---------------- Harley smiled lightly and shook her head. "Not at all sir, I just confused myself, as usual," she said with her little sheepish grin once again. She couldn't believe it was as simple as this, she had just forgotten about the different ways verbs are used. She forgot things quite easily but then again, she was like a human computer. If you asked her to speak Navajo right about now, she could probably do that right about now, along with Russian, for some reason she found Russian an easy language to speak, it might have to do with the fact one of the carnival folk could speak it fluently which meant the two of them were always speaking it. She opened the book once again and began to write down just a few notes, just to remind herself when she got back to her dorm to do her homework, with any luck, she would be able to do this without any other moments where she would have to bother people again, she hated bothering people. It was just her nature.
Harley was also the kind of person who was nice to everyone, even if they weren't nice to her, but Mister Castillo was always nice to her. "Oh sir, you're never mean," she said, smiling brightly with a light blush in her cheeks. She was a weird one, but then again, what did you expect from a girl who grew up on a carnival and never went to school until she was eight years old and even then she didn't fit in and was bullied for being the daughter of a carny, something she never thought would be a problem, but it obviously was for the people in her schools. Hence why her mother thought she would be better in this environment (not that she knew it was her mother that sent her here), there are so many different people from so many different backgrounds that no one would take note of her rough and weird background.
She waited a few moments after he told her she could ask for help, there was just one thing that she didn't understand. She slowly read over the page again, making sure she wasn't getting confused and then finally decided that she was confused. She took the book, the piece of paper and pen she was furiously scribbling with and walked to his desk. She slowly knelt beside the desk and placed the book on the one section of the desk that wasn't a covered in papers. She slowly opened the book to the page. "Actually sir, could you help be with this question. I don't quite understand what Miguel is saying," she said a little confused. The words were getting a little jumbled up in her mind and she didn't know if Miguel was requesting someone write back to him or whether he was saying he couldn't wait to hear from them. Mock questions confused her so much.

David paused from his work at the request. His eyes moved to the page, then down to the question. He read over it. The book was so silly to him. All of the situations were super absurd and just all around funny. Plus, the pictures. There was always a kid in a wheel chair, even when David was a kid the French books were the same in the fact they tried to include everything. The only difference were that his books were straight from the 70's, so everyone was super corny. Hell, one of the books he had taught out of had a kid with a hook hand. How weird was that.
"Well," David said, crossing his arms and leaning over the book a bit. "Escribir is to write and escribe is the command form for the verb," he explained, hoping it helped her a bit. He hated just flat out giving the answer. In most of his Spanish classes, depending upon their level of difficulty, David would only speak in Spanish, sometimes having to play charades to explain words that the class didn't know or forgot. Yes it was hard, for both him and everyone else, but it also made everything else easier. Most everyone got good at guessing what a word meant instead of just giving up on tests or in any other situations. Australia was a hell of a flight to any Spanish speaking country so it wasn't likely that they would have to use it at school, but quiet a few kids had to use it at home. There were plenty of places, especially in the US with people that simply didn't speak English. And most of them were from Central-South America. And besides, charades was an awesome game to be good at. It made you look smart.
"Does that help?" David asked, leaning back in his chair and changing his attention from the book to Harley. The question wasn't too hard, a little confusing in it's wording, but once you figured it out, it was a little more than saying Si or No. It was just an annoying, last questions that were always tricky. The book the school had him teach out of was so annoying sometimes, especially towards the beginning when it was all comprehension and no writing.

* harley sky walker----------------sometimes i can't tell which way's up---------------- Harley never learnt with visual aids, she didn't have books and she didn't have memory cards, instead she just had a group of crazy people teaching her. She thought everyone learnt like that but she ended up with a huge shock when she started in school, she hated it. One of the reasons she enjoyed being taught by Mister Castillo, he didn't spoon feed you, he actually helped you remember things by actually teaching. She was the only kid in her old school that could speak half the languages she could, hell, some people didn't even know they were languages. The problem for her was when she got scared of people, she would talk in one of those languages and people wouldn't have a clue what she said and bully her even more, one of the reasons she was scared of going to school.
She carefully looked at the book and then up at Mister Castillo as he spoke once again. She then smiled and nodded as it finally became clear in her head and she loved it. She always enjoyed the feeling of being satisfied, it just made her feel so completed, like all the time she solved problems on the carnival and even fixed the carousel once, she was a mad genius, just no one knew it yet. "So, he wants me to write back," she said with a little smile. It was posed as a question, but it really wasn't a question, she knew the answer, she just couldn't believe she didn't think of it herself, she felt a little silly for having to ask such a simple question, but then again, it was better to ask than having to fail like she usually did. She didn't know what it was but she just felt more comfortable in this school around the teachers.
"Thanks for the help sir," she said with a little polite smile. Sure, it was his job to help, but her father had always taught her to say her pleases and thank yous, after all, working in a place where that's the only thing that could smile during the day, it was important to them, well, that was unless people did something a little nicer. Although saying that, working on the carnival you got to savour the little moments, the couple on the ferris wheel, the two small children giggling on the tilt-a-whirl and so on, all those memories made her who she was today.

"Correct," David said, flashing a quick smile. Honestly, he hated his smile. A lot of people had told him it was cute and maybe a little silly, but still cute. He had, unfortunately, gotten his mother's lips. And, well, his teeth were childish because he'd never had any chance at getting dental work. Uncrossing, then recrossing his legs under the desk, he let out a slight sigh.
Picking up his coffee, he took a big sip. He was tired, more than tired, exhausted. "De nada," he sighed, looking at the quizzes. He really didn't want to grade them right now, but there wasn't any other time, really. Usually he went to sleep right when he got home, waking up at four to get everything ready for the day could get a little hectic. Plus they were doing soccer two a-days to make sure everyone was staying in shape, and those who weren't, into shape. It had taken about 3 years, but David had finally figured out how to make it through a day with out passing out, even if it required a constant flow of caffeine, and sometimes yerba mate.
"Anything else?" David asked, hoping to delay grading. She was done with the passage, so it didn't seem she would have many more questions. It never hurt to ask though. Maybe she had some sort of other question about conjugation or tenses that he could answer. However, with the internet anyone could figure out anything it seemed. Google, Yahoo, Ask. There were so many things.

* harley sky walker----------------sometimes i can't tell which way's up---------------- Harley smiled a little proud of herself now, she had actually done something right today. She sometimes wondered if she was destined to fail as everything in her life had gone so wrong recently. After losing her father she had lost all direction and still didn't know where she was going, every day she would change her mind, yesterday she was certain she would become a Disney actress and today, she was considering becoming a Spanish teacher for the pure fact she had got that question right and she was spending her time with a Spanish teacher. She was a girl who could never on one thing, almost like a butterfly, flitting between one thing and another. Her father had always told her she was a dreamer, but he was the counter balance to that, the yin to her yang and now he was gone, she was constantly searching for another yin, hoping to find them here in Perth, maybe in a student, or a teacher, hell, maybe even one of those random people she saw walking around the streets when she went to the beach occasionally.
A small blush came to her cheeks as he said it was no problem, she always felt like a problem to someone so hearing those words just made her feel a little bit better within herself. She then remembered that she had to actually note this down so she quickly wrote over a few of her wrong notes and sorted them all out. She smiled up at Mister Castillo and then quickly looked down at the homework task. She was pretty much sorted now, she didn't need any more help, she just wanted someone to talk really, but she didn't want to disturb him, although he didn't look like he was having fun marking his papers, who would? It seemed like one of the most boring things to ever do as a teacher. "I think that's it sir," she said with a polite little smile. "Unless you need any help around the classroom?" she said a little curious. She was always such a helpful little thing, she couldn't help it, it was just the way she was really.
